An Unforgettable Italian Getaway: My Ultimate 5-Day Rome and Florence Itinerary
After visiting Rome dozens of times during my years working as a corporate flight attendant, I thought I knew the city inside out. Day 0: Adjusting to the Eternal City
We arrived safely in Italy and decided to treat our first afternoon as Day 0. Our only goal was to stretch our legs, shake off the jet lag, and explore the neighborhood around our lovely Airbnb near the Colosseum.
For dinner, we discovered a local gem called Trattoria Vecchia. It is a wonderfully cozy spot offering reliable, incredibly delicious Italian classics that made us feel instantly at home.

Day 1: Vatican Treasures and the Historic Pantheon

We wrapped up our afternoon by stepping inside the majestic Pantheon. Standing under its massive, ancient concrete dome is an architectural experience that will leave you absolutely speechless.
Day 2: A Magical Art Escape to Florence
We boarded an early morning train at Roma Termini and arrived in Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, in just under two hours. Our morning began at Melaleuca Firenze Bakery Bistro, a gorgeous riverside spot where I happily secured my daily matcha fix.
Armed with our Firenze Cards, we spent the day admiring iconic masterpieces at the Galleria dell'Accademia and the Uffizi Gallery. If you travel during peak season, always make your museum reservations early in the morning to beat the crowds.
Before leaving, we treated ourselves to custom fragrances at a local boutique called Profumeria Invicta. We ended our Florence day trip with an incredible dinner at Trattoria ZaZa, where the rich, savory lobster pasta completely blew us away.
Day 3: Cycling Along the Appian Way
On our third day, we traded our walking shoes for electric bikes rented from Eco Bikes Roma. We embarked on an unforgettable journey along the historic Appian Way, tracing ancient paths lined with ruins.
If you are nervous about riding, do not worry! The electric assist makes navigating the paths incredibly smooth and fun, even if you have not been on a bike in a decade.
During our ride back, we stumbled upon Hostaria Antica Roma. The passionate owner, Paolo, served us an incredible white lasagna made from a rediscovered ancient Roman recipe that does not use tomatoes.
Day 4: Designer Shopping Near the Spanish Steps
What is a trip to Italy without a little retail therapy? We spent our fourth day browsing the high-end designer flagship stores situated at the base of the iconic Spanish Steps.
From luxury bags at Bottega Veneta to beautiful silk scarves at Louis Vuitton, it was the perfect day to celebrate our hard work. We later toasted our shopping successes over a elegant high tea at the historic Babingtons tea room.
Day 5: Hunting Treasures at Porta Portese
We spent our final morning hunting for vintage finds at the massive Porta Portese Flea Market. I managed to score some stunning vintage clutches for under 15 euros that will perfectly complement my favorite outfits!
