Is Sembawang More Haunted Than Old Changi? Let’s Walk With Hantu

More Than Just a Coastal Park: Sembawang’s Dark Side

When you ask a local about the spookiest places in Singapore, Old Changi usually tops the list. However, Eugene Tay from Supernatural Confessions suggests that Sembawang might actually be a very close second.

We recently joined the "Walk With Hantu: Sembawang" tour to see if the rumors were true. Part of the Singapore HeritageFest, this experience is as educational as it is bone-chilling.

Tour Logistics and Pricing

The tour is priced at $98 per person and is scheduled to run every Saturday throughout May. These sessions last approximately three hours, starting just as the sun begins to set at 6:00 PM.

If you are looking for a weekend plan that involves more than just shopping malls, this is a top-tier contender. Just make sure to book early, as these niche tours tend to fill up fast.

The Ghosts of Beaulieu House

Our journey began at the iconic Beaulieu House, a stunning colonial building with a heavy, complicated past. Before it was a popular seafood restaurant, it served as a British Naval Base and even a Japanese interrogation unit during the occupation.

Eugene shared a terrifying account of a visitor who reportedly encountered a headless sailor here. The force of the "collision" with the spirit was so strong it supposedly knocked the woman right off her feet.

The Lady in the Sarong

We also visited a massive, ancient tree that holds more than just historical value. Eugene recounted a personal childhood memory where a mysterious lady in a sarong tried to lure him toward the hollow of the trunk.

His mother intervened just in time, watching the figure vanish directly into the wood before her eyes. It’s a stark reminder that many old trees in Singapore are believed to house paranormal entities.

Exploring the "Spiritual Dumping Ground"

Kampong Wak Hassan feels like stepping back into a completely different era of Singapore. The air here feels notably heavier, and the area is infamous among locals for sightings of the Pontianak.

During the tour, we were given EMF meters—tools used to detect electromagnetic spikes—while standing in a silent circle. While we didn't catch a ghost on camera that night, the atmosphere was thick enough to make anyone a believer.

The Portal and the Secret Burial Grounds

Deep in the woods, we encountered a decrepit door standing alone, rumored by some to be a portal to another world. While it is likely a relic of an old bungalow, the land behind it serves as a literal burial ground for pets and ritualistic items.

Eugene warned us never to touch nails driven into trees in this area. These are often used as talismans to trap spirits, and legend says removing one can bring a week of intense hauntings.

  • Meeting Point: Beaulieu House, Sembawang Park
  • End Point: Woody Family Cafe
  • What to Bring: Comfortable hiking shoes and plenty of insect repellent!

Whether you're a hardcore skeptic or a paranormal enthusiast, this tour offers a fascinating look at Singapore's forgotten heritage. It’s definitely not your average weekend stroll in the park!
